Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD Review

Pioneer AVHP4100DVD 7-Inch In-Dash Double-DIN DVD Multimedia AV Receiver with Widescreen Display

The Pioneer AVHP4100DVD is an in-dashboard Audio/Video player with support for DVDs, DIVx, MP3, WMA amongst other formats. These players improve on conventional CD players by adding a touch screen for easy slide controls. This player also includes support for the Apple iPod, so taking your iPod contents, including your favorite movies and music with you in the car is even easier. Plug in your iPod and everything is controlled from the player. No iPod? The AVH-P4100DVD includes a built-in AUX input for playback from other media devices.

You can select from amongst five different display colors on the112 key panel match either your car interior or your mood.. You could even have your own favorite JPG file as a background wallpaper.

A word on the technical specifications. The MOSFET 50 W x 4 amplifier gives excellent sound quality for minimal distortion and super efficient power handling.

But enough of the specifications. How well does it live up to its claims?

Installation was easy with the Pioneer instructions and the supplied installation kit. The sound? Well, how can I describe the sound? It is truly fantastic. Clarity is unsurpassed. Far superior to the previously installed unit which will remain nameless. A couple of minor niggles. One is that the clock seems to be stuck on a 24-hour format and I couldn't find anyway of changing this to the more traditional 12-hour format. This may be covered in the owner's manual but I couldn't find it. The on-screen graphics are a little amateurish but since you don't spend much time looking at these, it's no big deal. The impressive sound quality more than makes up for these minor problems for me.
